The Farnsworth Project: Modern Colonial
No. 3 Farnsworth was a really unique and special project. This is a Victorian style home that was built in 1890. The original architecture and attention to detail is something that was important for me to highlight. This house was so much fun to work on because it is naturally bursting with so much charm. I approached this project with a Minimal Modern Colonial style in mind. I felt this aesthetic would help to modernize the house without stealing the spotlight from that lovely original architecture and detail (which I was passionate about remaining the star of the show).
The clients wanted to focus on redesigning the entire interior. So, I started with a clean palette of all white with black accents. All of the black accents were intentionally placed to highlight the beautiful original metalwork, molding, and woodwork. We stripped all of the walls, ripped out all of the old carpeting, refinished some floors and removed all window coverings. Although we used darker furniture and accents, the high ceilings, XL windows and whitewashed walls helped to transform this space into a light, bright and airy home that the owners fell in love with immediately.
